Hi Saturday Morning Fan,
Have you ever noticed that Saturday gives you less grams per hour than you set with your Max Hourly Carbs slider? Why do we do this?
The reason is quite simple: you need less fueling for shorter workouts than you do for longer workouts!
For shorter workouts (<90 min), you should have enough carbs to fuel your training from carbs already stored in the body (glycogen) and from your carb-laden pre-workout meal that will slowly provide your body with more carbs.
What about all of us that hit the pool or pavement first thing in the morning before a meal?
That's where the "Fasted before training?" option comes in. Select that if you start your training before breakfast or if you haven't eaten a meal in several hours before your training session begins. That's there to give you a little boost in energy, similar to what your pre-training meal might have been!
On the other hand, as your training gets progressively longer, you begin to experience glycogen depletion and have mostly used up the carbs from your pre-workout meal.
That's not only WHY fueling is so important during long training sessions (to ensure you have fuel available for performance), but also why it progressively increases until it reaches your Max Hourly Carbs slider settings for longer training.
