Hi Saturday Morning Fan,
As endurance athletes, we've competed both during the day and night. But have you considered the important differences in fueling both of those might need?
Day time:
- During the day, temps are usually hotter and more humid.
- When this happens you sweat more, requiring better hydration.
- If/when you don't keep up, you'll start to feel awful and see performance drop.
Night time:
- Alternatively, during night time when it's cooler, you sweat less. (Though, not sweating doesn't mean you're not still dehydrating!)
- When this happens, you actually need to drink less than day time or you'll overhydrate and pee a lot.
So why is this important?
Because by being mindful of this, it'll save you from underhydrating during the day and seeing a decline in performance, OR overhydrating during the night and constantly rushing to the bathroom.
For those of us that have competitions that can sometimes go overnight, we know just how important this is.
