Hi Saturday Morning Fan,
As an endurance athlete, have you ever wondered why your heart rate is so high at the end of your workout? Simply, here's why:
- When you train, your muscles produce heat. You get hotter. Sweat is what cools you.
- When you sweat, you lose water. That water comes from blood.
- When you have less fluid in your blood, your heart pumps less per beat.
- When your heart pumps less per beat, it goes faster to compensate. That's cardiac drift.
So why is this important?
You can run faster for longer with less effort if you stay hydrated during training, not just before.
